District 44 conducts developmental screenings for children between the ages of 0 to 5 years of age to identify students who may be eligible for either the Prekindergarten At-Risk Program or Early Childhood Special Education. There are typically four screenings per year. Children identified through the screening as experiencing difficulty in the areas of Cognitive Development, Speech and Language Skills, Social Emotional Development, Gross and Fine Motor Skills, or in Vision and Hearing may be referred for further evaluation(s) to determine eligibility for special education services.
The developmental screening is not intended as a screening for regular Kindergarten admission. The screening typically takes one hour. Parents will also be asked to complete a developmental profile for on their child. Children who were screened in previous years do not need to be screened again this year unless so advised or if parents have new or additional concerns.
If you are concerned about your child’s development, wish to schedule an appointment, or have questions concerning the appropriateness of this screening for your child, please call Cathy Angelos, Early Childhood Principal at (630)827-4167 or connect with her by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
